Requirements and our panels
Whilst south is the ideal orientation for solar pv panels, your roof must face between east, south and west for a good PV system. Above all, your roof must not be shaded.
You generally don't need planning permission to install Solar PV Panels: they're normally classed as a "permitted development" (with exceptions for listed buildings, conservation areas or AONBs).
We use Mitsubishi panels, which have been proven to have outstanding performance.
Installation and benefits
The installation of Solar PV Panels on a south (or near south) facing roof is normally finished within 2 days. However, sometimes extra electrical work needs to be carried out and scaffolding engineering varies per house.
As soon as the panels have been installed you can start using the electricity they produce, reducing the need to buy so much from your current supplier. You also start earning money for every unit of electricity you generate.
How it works
Solar PV Panels use the sun to generate electricity, which connect to your appliances through an inverter. The inverter ensures output from the panels runs at a slightly higher voltage, which means your appliances use the panel's electricity before your own, reducing your energy consumption. If you don't use all the electricity you generate it is exported to the national grid.
Because the amount of electricity the panels generate varies with external light conditions, the output is always averaged over the year.
